Thunder Bay Queens: Dominate Success South of the Border and at Home
THUNDER BAY, ON – As January came to a close, the U13 Thunder Bay Queens showcased their talents by securing gold at the Cloquet Heartbreaker Tournament. The team delivered an outstanding performance, allowing a mere three goals against while netting an impressive 21 goals throughout the tournament.  With two shutouts shared by the netminders on the weekend against Hibbing and Cloquet, the U13 Thunder Bay Queens sealed the Championship with a commanding 5-1 victory against Rock Ridge. Looking ahead, the team awaits competing in the local Norwest Minor Hockey Tournament, February 23-25, 2024.

This past weekend the BFL Canada U15A Thunder Bay Queens continued the winning streak, clinching their fourth Championship title, emerging victorious at the OMGHA Cabin Fever Classic, beating the host Maple Grove in the gold medal game.  The team would go undefeated in all four matchups - conquering OMGHA White 4-1, North Wright County Riverhawks 7-2, Brainerd River Falls 3-1, and closed out the championship with a shutout performance by Norah Traer between the pipes against OMGHA Black 3-0.

In a separate event, The Staal U11 Thunder Bay Queens faced off against teams from Schreiber, Longlac and Nipigon in the Annual Nipigon Elks Tournament this weekend.  The Queens displayed their prowess, concluding the event with a perfect 4-0 record, capturing the Championship by defeating the Longlac Timberwolves with a convincing 5-0 score.  The team is wrapping up their tournament schedule for the 2023-24 season as they gear up to compete in Minnesota at the Hermantown Fire and Ice Tournament, February 9-11, 2024.

Lastly, February 9-11, 2024 marks the second weekend of our two part Thunder Bay Queens inaugural Northern Boreal Select Series.  The Halfway Motors U18A Thunder Bay Queens and U15AA Thunder Bay Queens will welcome two High School Teams from Northwestern Ontario, the Fort Frances Muskie Girls and the Kenora St. Thomas Aquinas Saints.  The series promises to showcase competitive women’s hockey and foster regional sportsmanship.  We wish good luck to all participating teams and look forward to seeing the community come together to support and cheer on the teams.
