MADISON, WI — The Gridlink Midget A Queens are in Madison, Wisconsin for the CAN/AM Tournament.
Friday, the Queens got things rolling against host Madison Capitols and would strike first and second, scoring twice in 55 seconds on goals from Bria Filice and Meggie Mallon. Madison would get one back before the period ended. 2-1 after one. The Queens would carry the play for the most part outshooting Madison 24-10 but neither side would allow another goal. 2-1 final.
That evening, Thunder Bay took on the Anaheim Lady Ducks in a tight contest that left the game scoreless through two. Finally Caitlyn McGuire would find Julia Buchan with a pass who’d in turn setup Kaitlyn Intini’s goal for the opening goal of the game. Anaheim pushed back but Intini would get on the scoresheet again, making a play to Emma Johnston who’d score with 96 seconds left putting the game out of reach for the Lady Ducks. Camryn Williams earned a shutout in the 2-0 win.
On Saturday morning, the Queens got up to play the San Jose Jr Sharks. The Sharks would score first and quickly tied by the Queens 1:42 later when Johnston and Buchan’s handwork would get the puck to Mallon who’d bury it in the net. 1-1 after one. San Jose would break the tie early in the third to which the Queens had no answer, losing 2-1.
In the evening the Queens put their 2-1 record up against the St. Louis Blues. St. Louis scored the lone goal of the first period.
