Peewee Queens Find Tough Competition in Duluth

DULUTH, MN — The Peewee Queens opened the Oktoberfest 12UA Exhibition series with an evening game against Anoka Rogers who opened the scoring two unanswered goals. Kingston Golding started the comeback for the Queens, scoring to cut the lead to one but Anoka Rogers scored to retain the lead. Makenzee Kostiuk notched a late goal in the third to draw the Queens to within a goal but they couldn’t complete the comeback, dropping the opening game 3-2.

Saturday, the Peewee Queens took on the Duluth Ice Breakers in their first of two matchups for the day. Duluth drew first blood in the second period but the Beth Gagnon would tie it up soon after after being setup by Keira Stokaluk and then early in the third, Makenzee Kostiuk put the Queens ahead 2-1 which was the final score. In their evening game, Forest Lake put up the first three goals, taking a 3-0 lead but the Queens would respond with three of their own as Annie Mallon potted two while Gagnon also scored to make it a 3-3 tie. Unfortunately in the third, a pair of powerplay goals 15 seconds apart from Forest Lake put the game out of reach. 5-3 loss.

And on Sunday, it was the Mirage U12A awaiting the Queens as their final test. The Mirage opened the scoring in the first on the powerplay but Kingston Golding would setup Kali Bragnalo for the tying goal in the second. They tie only lasted minutes however as the Mirage took the lead back and held it to hand the Queens a 2-1 loss.

The Queens finish up the exhibition series with a 1-3-0 record, being outscored 10-8.
