Peewee Queens Take Silver at Norwest TournamentTHUNDER BAY, ON — In the Semi Finals of the Norwest tournament, the Peewee Queens met the Dryden Paper Kings Sunday morning. The Queens got on the board first after Brynn Hannula would setup Avery Olenik who’d score on the powerplay. Late in the second, Olenik returned the favour setting up Hannula’s goal with 38 seconds remaining in the period. Dryden managed a powerplay goal about six minutes into the third but goalie Abby Wills was exceptional, stopping 29 of 30 shots, hanging onto the 2-1 victory.
In the Championship final, the Queens would take on theFort Frances Canadians. There was a quick couple of goals as after Fort Frances scored first at 8:25 of the first, Kingston Golding answered back for the Queens just 13 seconds later. Fort Frances managed a go-ahead goal with just 9 seconds left in the first and then another couple goals in the second to take a 4-1 lead. Hannula managed a late goal in the game but it’d be as close a comeback as there’d be as the Queens dropped this one 4-2.
On their way to a Silver Medal finish, the Peewees went 3-1-1, outscoring opponents 13-12. "The accomplishments of our team this weekend by beating the top PW AA boys team in the city and the region, and then losing a heart breaker in the championship game, speaks volumes to the player's willingness to execute a game plan and outwork their opponents every shift." said Queens Coach Dave Olenik "The coaching staff is tremendously proud of their work ethic and dedication to the game."
