Media Release: Sunday, February 17, 2019
Bantam AAs Capture Bronze at CanAm CupMADISON, WI — The Bantam AA Queens found themselves on the wrong side of a couple one-goal losses on Saturday but would have a chance to avenge one of their losses in the Bronze medal game of the CanAm Challenge Cup against the St. Louis Lady Blues who had previously edged out the Queens.
Joanna Martinsen setup Katy Lacosse midway through the first who’d score and give the Queens the lead. Thunder Bay couldn’t escape the first though without surrendering one goal as St. Louis would pop one in during the final minute of the first. Goalie Reese Keating held the 1-1 tie through the second period, stopping 18 of 19 shots through two. 32 seconds into the third period, Paige Broughton and Ella Mannila would work with the puck and find Riah Compardo who’d score and put the Queens up 2-1! Keating would keep her net clean stopping 11 shots in the third, 29 of 30 total, winning the game and the bronze medal for her team.
The Bantam AAs are the second Queens team this season to bring home hardware from the CanAm Cup as the Midget As won Gold the previous weekend.
