Gridlink Midget As Go For Gold at CanAm Cup

MADISON, WI — After back-to-back 7-0 wins at the CanAm Challenge Cup on Friday, the Gridlink Midget A Queens looked to keep their sparkling record against the Lady Lancers on Saturday afternoon. Sibley Duckert broke open the scoring (from Caitlin Olinski and Kayla Stein) for the only goal of the first period. Kaitlyn Intini’s goal of a play from Sarah Grieve extended the lead early into the second. Emma Johnston scored to make it 3-0 before helping to setup a goal by Grieve. Goalie Mya Gowanlock earned her second straight shutout while Duckert completed the hat trick scoring twice in the third. 6-0 final.

Friday night, a win against the Chicago Jets insured their spot in the gold medal game. Chicago would score first, handing the Queens their first goal against of the tournament. In the second Sydnie Crocker setup Duckert for the tying goal. The game looked to end tied in regulation time but with 1:03 left Caitlyn McGuire found Grieve with the puck and she’d score to give the Queens the lead. Johnston hit an empty netter to put it away as the Gridlink Queens won 3-1.

With a 4-0 record, the Midget As earned their way into the Gold Medal game on Sunday morning.
