Midget A Queens Reach Semis in Chicago

CHICAGO, IL — The Gridlink Midget A Queens played their final round robin game of the Winter Classic against the Utah Lady Grizzlies Sunday afternoon, who were 2-0 up to this point. After a scoreless first, Caitlyn McGuire would finally break the ice in the second period scoring after being setup by Caitlin Olinski. The Queens struck again early in the third on a goal by Julia Buchan and then put the finishing touches on a 3-0 win when Sarah Grieve scored (assisted by Hannah Leung and Kayla Stein) as Mya Gowanlock got the shutout. The Queens put forth an awesome effort, outshooting Utah 24-10.

Sunday night, the Queens got matched up against the Omaha Lady Jr Lancers in quarter final action. Gaby Andreacchi opened the scoring late in the first with Buchan drawing an assist and then Sarah Grieve would score the only goal of the second (assisted by Jada Lablanc) to give the Queens a 2-0 lead. In the 3rd, Omaha cut the lead to one but Stein regained the 2-goal lead for the Queens on a play setup by Olinski and Sydnie Crocker. Omaha managed a late goal on the powerplay but Thunder Bay held on, winning the game 3-2 and putting themselves in the Semi Final in which they’ll take on the Aurora Panthers at 9:20am on Monday.
