Final Day of 2 Nations College Prep Series

BRAMPTON, ON — After going 3-1 through Friday and Saturday, the Sportop Midget AA Queens took on their final opponent of the weekend in the Fraser Valley Rush. An early marker by Alexis Paddington gave the Queens a 1-0 lead, a lead they’d hold almost through two periods until the Rush would sneak in a late goal with 40 seconds in the second period. The 1-1 tie was finally broken by Molly Kunnas on a set of plays from Brynne Lambert and Victoria Darosa to give the Queens the lead. Jocelyn Wojciechowski would then setup Brenna Nicol who’d score just 3:25 after Kunnas to put some distance between them and Fraser Valley. With their goalie pulled, the Rush scored with 44 seconds left in the period to cut the lead to one but after the ensuing face-off, Jamie Ricklefs would gain control of the puck, get it to Paddington who’d pot an empty net goal, ending all hopes of a comeback. 4-2 Queens.

The Bantam AA Queens didn’t play a fifth game on Sunday after finishing with a win, two regulation time losses and an overtime loss. While a lack of scoring was their inevitable undoing, the girls worked their tails off and goaltenders Reese Keating and Mykaila George stood tall keeping their opponents to 3 goals against through 4 regulation games against some very good teams, three of whom went undefeated on the weekend. The young team with 9 first year players had their chances to score but the bounces and the calls just didn’t seem to go their way including a late game breakaway by Katy Lacosse in which she was hauled down with no call in a tie game. Overall though the team took some positive strides and proved to be a very hard team to score against.
