THUNDER BAY QUEENS HOCKEY
Media Release: Friday, November 30, 2018
2 Tight Games at 2 NationsBRAMPTON, ON — The Sportop Midget AA Queens got off to a great start at the 2 Nations College Prep Series going undefeated on day one. A pair of goals from Molly Kunnas set the tone agains the Brock Jr Badgers in their morning game as the Queens jumped out to a 2-0 lead. Brenna Nicol added an insurance marker while goalie Kamryn Sandelovich kept the net clean in her shutout bid as Thunder Bay skated to a 3-0 victory. In their afternoon slate, the Midget AAs had a strong showing against the Gilmour Gladiators but couldn’t find the back of the net. Jamie Ricklefs would break the double goose eggs midway through the 3rd to finally give the Queens a lead. The Gladiators tied the game with 1:35 left but Lucy Newman got it back immediately just 14 seconds later which was the eventual game winner in a 2-1 win.
Over in the Bantam AA division, another Queens teams started their morning against another Brock Badgers team. Goalie Reese Keating held up her end in keeping the game a scoreless draw through two periods. Brock would get their break, scoring early into the third and, unfortunately, that was the only goal of the game as Brock took it 1-0. In the evening, the Queens looked to get back to their winning ways against the Belmont Blazers. The Queens would again get strong goaltending, this time from Mykaila George, who’d keep her net empty while Kathryn Lacosse scored to give the Queens a lead in the 2nd and then Akira Tatebe potted a late goal in the third to all but assure victory as George earned a shutout in the 2-0 win.
Saturday morning the Bantam AA Queens have an 11:00am start as they’ll be fishing for another win against the Barrie Sharks and then at 5:15pm they’ll take on the Toronto Leaside Wildcats. The Sportop Midget AA Queens get an even earlier start on the day with a 9:00am puck drop against the St. Albert Slash. They’ll play again Saturday evening but that game time and opponent are T.B.A.
