Both Midget Queens Teams Start Tournament 2-0

THUNDER BAY, ON — Both the Gridlink Midget A and Sportop Midget AA Queens had a pair of games to open the Confederation College Thunderhawks Invitational Tournament.

The Midget AAs got things rolling with a 6-0 shutout by netminder Josee Robinsonover the LU Thunderwolves. Molly Kunnas and Jocelyn Wojciechowski both scored in the opening period. Jessie Scott extended the lead while game MVP, Jamie Ricklefs, scored a hattrick. The offence continued to flow in their evening slate against the St. Thomas Saints. ScottWojciechowski and Ricklefs would all find the twine again along with goals added by Mackenzie LehtoDarbie Mattson and this game’s MVP Victoria Darosa.

Meanwhile the Midget As also had a large offensive output scoring seven goals to two against the host Confederation College Thunderhawks. Sibley Duckert and Sarah Grieve both put up markers in the goals column while Kayla Stein potted a couple of ginos and Gaby Andreacchi scored a hat trick. They'd face a lot stiffer competition in the evening though facing the Thunder Bay Fury. After a scoreless first period, backstopped by Queens netminder Camryn Williams and Fury goalie Paige Wilson, the Queens would finally break the goose egg when Hailey Wrigley setup Stein for her third goal of the tournament, giving the Queens a 1-0 edge. Both goalies would shut the door the rest of the way onto a 1-0 final.

On Saturday, both Midget Queens teams will trade dance partners as the Midget As take on St. Thomas and the LU Thunderwolves and the Midget AAs face the Fury and the hosts, Confederation College Thunderhawks.
