THUNDER BAY, ON — The Sportop Midget AA Queens looked to avenge a 3-2 shootout loss on Friday taking on Gentry Academy in their second game of a three-game series. The first goals of the game wouldn’t be yielded until the second period which came 33 seconds apart as Gentry’s 1-0 lead was erased by Jamie Ricklefs on a feed from Defenceman Brenna Bohonos.
Gentry took charge however amassing three unanswered goals to take a 4-1 lead. Molly Kunnas would setup Kaylee Grosjean for a late goal but it was too little too late as Gentry skated away with a 4-2 win.
In their evening date with the Topper’s Pizza Midget A Queens, Gentry and Thunder Bay skated to a 0-0 draw through the first period. Five minutes into the second, Gentry opened the scoring and then would add a powerplay goal midway into the third. The Queens came back on a goal from Kailey Swerhun on a setup from Cassandra Carangi and Caitlin Olinski but that would be as close as they’d come in a 2-1 loss.
The Sportop Midget AA Queens will have one more crack at Gentry on Sunday morning at 11:00am.
