Bantam A Queens win opener of Westfort Fall Classic after lengthy shootout

THUNDER BAY, Ont. – A Vanessa Danielle goal in the 11th round of the shootout proved to be the decider as the Thunder Bay Tim Hortons bantam A Queens edged the Elks 82’s peewee AA’s 2-1 Thursday evening in the opener of the Westfort Rangers Keating Insulation Fall Classic at the Tournament Centre.

The Elks took the lead with a first period marker and stayed in front until 1:54 to go in regulation when the Queens’ Gaby Andreacchi struck shorthanded to knot the affair at 1-1.

In the long shootout, Queens’ netminder Marissa Brosseau was stellar stopping 10 of the 11 attempts she faced along the way.

Kyra Otway notched the other marker in extra shots for the club.

Playing in the boys’ peewee AA division of the tournament, the bantam A Queens return to the ice twice Friday with games against the K.C. Sabres and the Westfort Maroons.
