Midget A Queens victorious in Fort Frances; Midget AA’s fall in Detroit finaleFORT FRANCES, Ont. – The Thunder Bay Topper’s Pizza midget A Queens have returned home as first place finishers at the 2nd annual Scott Clendenning Memorial Showcase in Fort Frances after blanking the Dryden Eagles 3-0 Sunday.
Thunder Bay finished the event tied with the host Fort Frances Muskies with identical 3-0-1 records, but the Queens earned top spot by virtue of a better goals for margin.
In the match-up with Dryden, Cameron Ivall posted the shutout in the triumph.
After scoreless opening frame, Thunder Bay tallied three times in the middle session to secure the victory.
Jocelyn Wojciechowski had the game-winner while Jessie Page and Jamie Ricklef added later markers.
Brooke Herman, Caitlyn Olinski and Victoria Darosa supplied assists to aid the offensive cause.
Meanwhile in Detroit, Mich., the Sportop midget AA Queens were blanked 5-0 by a strong Shattuck-St. Mary’s Sabres side in their final contest of the 2 Nations College Prep Series event.
Shattuck-St. Mary’s scored one in the first, three times in the second and once more in the third in earning the triumph.
Aden Johnson suffered the loss in goal.
Despite the setback the club finished with a 4-1 record over the weekend.
Both of the Queens’ midget teams will be in action next weekend on home ice as they compete in the Caribou Coach Classic Nov. 4-6 at Fort William First Nation Arena.
