First Class Gas BAA Queens win Icebreaker Invitational in DuluthDULUTH, Minn. – The Thunder Bay First Class Gas bantam AA Queens capped off yet another impressive tournament by winning the gold medal at the St. Luke’s Icebreaker Invitational after defeating the host Duluth Icebreakers 4-1 in the final.
The Queens broke open a tie game in the third period with three unanswered tallies to pull out the triumph finishing the weekend with a perfect 5-0 record.
After Duluth opened the scoring Madeline Browczuk notched the equalizer to level the proceedings after one period of play. Karadyn Kiviaho and Vanessa Nicholl picked up assists on the play.
Neither side would connect in the middle session setting the stage for the bantam AA squad to break it open in the third.
In that final frame Kaylee Grosjean buried the eventual game-winner to put the Queens in front for good then added her second of the final minutes later with Alyssa Cicigoi drawing the helper.
Caitlyn Radbourne then iced it with an unassidted effort to round out the scoring.
Thunder Bay earned their way to the final after edging the Blaine Bengals 3-2 in semifinal action earlier in the day.
The victory capped off a successful weekend for both of the Queens’ bantam teams as the Manshield Construction bantam A side were also victorious in their tourney after blanking the host Grand Rapids Lightning 4-0 in the championship game of the Star of the North event in that Minnesota community earlier Sunday.
Both clubs continue to roll and produce results with each side now having won three consecutive tournaments apiece.
