Queens donate $700 to Christmas Cheer FundTHUNDER BAY – After a very successful event this past weekend on the ice with three of their clubs winning championships the Thunder Bay Queens have once again shown their holiday spirit off the ice.
The Queens organization is proud to have made a donation in the amount of $700 to the Christmas Cheer Fund of Thunder Bay.
Each year during their annual Showcase weekend the Queens organization has elected not to charge an admission fee to any of the games, but instead offering those attending an opportunity to donate to a silver collection set-up throughout the weekend.
At this years’ Showcase $350 was raised by donations with the Queens organization as a whole opting to match the monies raised bringing the overall total to $700, which has been generously donated to the Christmas Cheer Fund of Thunder Bay to help those less fortunate in the community during the holiday season.
“The Queens Showcase was a wonderful weekend for all of our teams with a lot of smiles on the faces of our girls,” offered tournament chair Melanie Salatino, an alumna of the organization before going on to play collegiately in the U.S. in the NCAA ranks.
“Hopefully with the generosity shown by all those attending the Showcase it will help put a few more smiles on faces of those in need around Thunder Bay over the Christmas season,” added Salatino.
Since 2010 nearly $4,000 has been donated by the Queens to the Christmas Cheer Fun of Thunder Bay on behalf of the organization and those who have come out and supported girls’ hockey in the city.
