First Class Gas Queens win silver medal in Windsor

WINDSOR – The Thunder Bay First Class Gas bantam AA Queens have returned home from the sixth annual Hocktoberfest International Female Hockey Festival in Windsor.

After defeating the Sarnia Lady Sting 2-1 in a shootout in semifinal action Thunder Bay dropped a hard-fought 3-0 decision to the St. Catharines Chaos in the championship game.

Down a goal vs. Sarnia in the semifinal Madeline Browczuk scored in the second to tie the contest at 1-1 where it stayed until extra shots.

Needing a tally to keep the game going Kaylee Grosjean scored to see the shootout continue.

Alyssa Aho then made a big save in the Thunder Bay net setting the stage for Alyssa Cicigoi to pot the winner.

In the gold medal contest, it was a tightly-checking affair that did not see the game’s first goal until 7:44 into the third period.

St. Catharines added a later marker and a final one into the empty net to seal the Queen’s fate.

Round robin play saw the side go unbeaten with a 3-0-1 record.
