Queens in the communityTHUNDER BAY, Ont. – While the Thunder Bay Queens girls hockey program continues on during a busy season, they have also found time in their busy schedules to do their part for the community.
Prior to the beginning of the Christmas holidays the entire roster of the Tim Hortons bantam A Queens team spent a day volunteering at the Dew Drop Inn.
The 13 and 14-year-old girls were able to prepare and serve a hot lunch to approximately 170 clients as part of the team’s ongoing commitment to the development of the girls as both hockey players and good citizens.
In addition to volunteering, the team also made a monetary donation to the Dew Drop Inn.
The girls appreciate the great support they have received from their community and enjoy the opportunity to give back.
You also had the Sportop midget AA and the RBC Securities bantam AA clubs perform an amazing act of kindness this holiday season as they got together to generously provide to a family in need with a festive holiday season.
Both teams organized and gathered and wrapped all the gifts that the players and their families have graciously given to provide Christmas for a local family in need.
Meanwhile the bantam AA Queens also spent five nights over the past number of weeks bowling with members of the Special Olympics program of Thunder Bay as part of their sport related activities.
The Goldcorp midget A squad also did their part as they prepared and served a turkey dinner to their families and raised over $600 for the Boys and Girls Club of Thunder Bay.
The fifth member of the organization, in the peewee Queens, have also given back volunteering at the After School Food Program.
They also participated in the Stockings for Seniors event through the St. Josephs Care Group and the Blessing in a Backpack with the Our Kids Count program.
The peewees have also been assisting with the Thunder Bay Women’s Hockey Association atom girls team along with the KC Minor Hockey IP1 program.
“We couldn’t be more proud of each of our teams for the initiatives they have wholeheartedly supported in giving back to the City of Thunder Bay and these worthwhile causes prior to and over the holiday season,” offered Queens Rep Director Shawn Kunnas.
“The girls and each of the team coaching staffs are to be commended for their efforts on and off the ice each and every day and we at the Thunder Bay Queens would like to wish everyone a joyous and prosperous New Year.”
