3rd place finish for bantam AA Queens in Eden PrairieEDEN PRAIRIE, Minn. – The Thunder Bay bantam AA Queens wrapped up play at the Prelude to the Playoffs tournament in Eden Prairie, Minn., Sunday with a 5-0 shutout of the Minnetonka Skippers in the bronze medal game.
Thunder Bay earned the third place title thanks to the shutout goaltending of Lindsay Humeniuk who stopped all 24 shots she faced in the victory.
Alexis Paddington supplied the eventual game-winning goal with a first period shorthanded marker.
Special teams allowed the Queens to add another as Kailey Swerhun connected on a second period power play.
Paddington picked up another tally before the intermission to put her side up by three.
Kayla Stein and Caitlyn McGuire finished off the scoring in the final frame.
In the semifinals, Thunder Bay dropped a hard-fought 2-1 shootout decision to a strong Edina Green side despite the 52-save performance of Thunder Bay goaltender Camryn Williams, who had an outstanding game.
Paddington scored in the first to out the Queens up before Edina’s Hannah Chorske evened the game up late in the frame.
With Williams playing great the contest stayed tied throughout regulation and overtime with extra shots being required to determine a winner.
In the first round of the shootout, Sydney White and Sarah Grieve scored twice as did Edina.
Needing more shots in one attempt apiece sudden victory both Bella Carangi and Edina scored before the opposition finally prevailed in the seventh set of shooters to end it.
